The reliability of a risk index (RI) in predictin the development of the caries in children was verified following three years of odontostomatologic surveillance. The proposed RI was shown to correlate well with the formation of carious lesions. In fact, only one carious lesion developed in a group of 11 subjects with a RI of 0,4 or lower whilst among 14 patients with a RI of 0,5 or hider, 17 caries (in 8 sobjects) were found. The difference between the average for each of the two group was highly significant. Evaluation of the RI in children, calculated according to the methods proposed in this study, can be useful for recognizing those subjects who need to undergo more accurate odontostomatologic surveillance.

Abstract
The reliability of a risk index (RI) in predictin the development of the caries in children was verified following three years of odontostomatologic surveillance. The proposed RI was shown to correlate well with the formation of carious lesions. In fact, only one carious lesion developed in a group of 11 subjects with a RI of 0,4 or lower whilst among 14 patients with a RI of 0,5 or hider, 17 caries (in 8 sobjects) were found. The difference between the average for each of the two group was highly significant. Evaluation of the RI in children, calculated according to the methods proposed in this study, can be useful for recognizing those subjects who need to undergo more accurate odontostomatologic surveillance.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
