Severe hyperparathyroidism due to parathyroid carcinoma and Hashimoto's thyroiditis was observed in a 69-yr-old Sardinian woman. To our knoweldge, this association has not been reported so far. Given the high prevalence of autoimmune disease in elderly women, a random occurrence of the two conditions could represents the most probable explanation. (C) 1997, Editrice Kurtis.
