The issue of bringing the domestic legal systems of most Arab countries into conformity with international standards on women's rights is well known. This study aims to examine how legislators, particularly in certain Arab countries of the Mediterranean region, have introduced reforms in specific areas of the legal system – most notably family law – which play a central role in defining the scope and substance of women's rights. The study seeks to assess whether these reforms have contributed to overcoming the dichotomy between domestic and international legal norms or whether, and to what extent, a substantial conflict between the two continues to persist.

Abstract
The issue of bringing the domestic legal systems of most Arab countries into conformity with international standards on women's rights is well known. This study aims to examine how legislators, particularly in certain Arab countries of the Mediterranean region, have introduced reforms in specific areas of the legal system – most notably family law – which play a central role in defining the scope and substance of women's rights. The study seeks to assess whether these reforms have contributed to overcoming the dichotomy between domestic and international legal norms or whether, and to what extent, a substantial conflict between the two continues to persist.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
