Condorcet’s Democratic Theory is a result of the Lumières and is steeped in historicity. Its main historical significance is that it places itself in a critical relationship with the revolutionary political culture, of which it is part, through a constitutional dialectic that has three main dimensions : between democracy and rights, between past and present, and between citizens and representatives. Condorcet’s Democratic Theory is a result of the Lumières and is steeped in historicity. It takes shape during the reflections on the American Constitution, develops in the wake of the French Revolution, and finds full expression in the “Girondin” Draft Republican Constitution. Its main historical significance is that it places itself in a critical relationship with the revolutionary political culture, of which it is part, through a constitutional dialectic that has three main dimensions : between democracy and rights, between past and present, and between citizens and representatives. Its main theoretical legacy is a fully democratic strategy against the despotic outcomes of democracyI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
