The present essay aims to explore the results of reconstructions or no-reconstruction, starting by census of damage II war and the typology of the restored architecture. In this way we will identify the criticalities of the architecture or of the actual urban fabric, linkable directly or indirectly to this dramatic event after so many years after II War ended. The devastation left by World War II in the Europe cities has been considerable and included both the monumental architectures and the so-called minor architecture. This research aims to understand what are the outcomes of reconstruction and critical issues now of the long process of architectural and urban regeneration implemented. In particular it examines which way the level of damage influenced the reconstruction, thanks to the comparison between the historical and current cartography and the observation of historical photos and the current state of the buildings. So, we try to understand if there is any correlation between the damage level, the type of building and the restauration adopted, more or less conservative thanks to the analysis of some case-studies. Let’s see which the different results of reconstruction have been and which problems are still present in the city, taking some emblematic buildings as examples and how we can solve problems never solved. In the example of the proposed city of Cagliari, we will be able to understand what objectives can be achieved to improve the quality of living in the historic center and resolve some problems that are still unresolved.
