The paper considers the problem of transportation services between the smaller Italian islands and the rest of the Italian territory, in the context of the recent “re-constitutionalization” of the principle of insularity (Constitutional Law No. 2 of 2002) and of the prominence given to islands issues in the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. Despite the variety of situations, because of the distance from the mainland, the population density, as well as the applicable regional statutes, they share the need for reliable and affordable transport services all the year round, with convenient opportunities to transship to other means of transportation towards final destination by reasonable fares and under clear legal framework.

Abstract
The paper considers the problem of transportation services between the smaller Italian islands and the rest of the Italian territory, in the context of the recent “re-constitutionalization” of the principle of insularity (Constitutional Law No. 2 of 2002) and of the prominence given to islands issues in the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. Despite the variety of situations, because of the distance from the mainland, the population density, as well as the applicable regional statutes, they share the need for reliable and affordable transport services all the year round, with convenient opportunities to transship to other means of transportation towards final destination by reasonable fares and under clear legal framework.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
