The article announces the discovery of an unknown fourteenth-century witness of the epistle sent by Dante to the emperor Arrigo VII (‘Ep.’, vii) and provides the description of Alghero, Biblioteca Comunale “Rafael Sari”, MS. 58, which, in addition to the Dante’s letter, is the witness of an anthol- ogy of Virgilian argument and of a metrical epistle of Petrarch (ii 5). Finally, the text of Dante’s letter is published as preserved in the MS. 58, in the hope that, in the future, it will be critically edited.
