Abstract

Dorofeyukea ectoriana sp. nov. is described from diatom samples collected from a small thermo-mineral spring in Sardinia (Italy). We present here the morphological features of the species based on light and scanning electron microscopy, and a comparison with other species belonging to the genus Dorofeyukea known so far. Dorofeyukea ectoriana was found in slightly alkaline waters with a sodium-chloride composition, medium-high mineralization level and fluoride and phosphorus enrichment.
