Recent archaeological researches in the area of the Circus Maximus highlight the need to proceed to a review and re-analysis of some marble architectural fragments. The fragments are actually stored in the archaeological area, both on the Palatine and Aventine sides of the Circus. The present study is organized as a catalogue with a brief introduction of the hypothetical original context – the description is followed by a short record. The hypothesis about the contexts are based on the dimensions, the structure and on the characteristics of the decorative typology.

Abstract

Recent archaeological researches in the area of the Circus Maximus highlight the need to proceed to a review and re-analysis of some marble architectural fragments. The fragments are actually stored in the archaeological area, both on the Palatine and Aventine sides of the Circus. The present study is organized as a catalogue with a brief introduction of the hypothetical original context – the description is followed by a short record. The hypothesis about the contexts are based on the dimensions, the structure and on the characteristics of the decorative typology.
