On the basis of the enunciative semantic theory of notional domain (Culioli 1985), enriched with the concept of semiotic complex (Delmas 1993), which sees a lexical item as a set of semes that comprise the conditions of extension admissible in a given culture, activable in accordance with the situation of utterance, I proceed to devise different tools for translation, i.e., for the transposition to another cultural-linguistic system, especially of culturemes (Poyatos 1972), expressions highly relevant in the cultural fabric of a given speech system. By means of such tools, after extracting the notional and semiotic features of a notional domain, the most relevant ones are chosen with regard to the ongoing enunciative situation, which includes both specific parameters of the communicative act and the presumed intention of discourse itself. These traits are therefore made explicit in various ways, with a view to create in the target text a product illocutionarily equivalent to the one present in the source text, given the impossibility of maneuvering with the lexical item itself at a global level, due to the lack of an equivalent notional domain in the target language. This contribution is part of a project for the creation of a theoretical model for translation, based on the metaoperational enunciative theory (cf. Adamczewski 1996, Matte Bon 1997, Laurencio 2019).

Abstract

2023
