Within the issues related to sustainable and smart territories, a prominent role is played by a better exploitation of renewable energies, green mobility and the efficient use of new technologies. There are, in fact, a different local and global policies, that aimed at encouraging less energy expenditure and the use of «alternative» means and modes of transport. In this context in which the debate on smart islands, a real territorial laboratories where innovative solutions for the optimal management of resources are studied. This work, through some case studies referring to the Canary Islands, which stands out in the island context for the growing adoption of virtuous behavior, aims to highlight the strategies and opportunities arising from a different use of renewable sources for the local economy.

Abstract
