Trials using traps combining visual and olfactory stimuli were carried out againstDacus oleaeGmelin in Sardinia over the four years 1980-83. A series of studies were first made on the population dynamics of the insect and on the efficiency, selectivity and attractability range of both olfactory and visual traps. The results showed that Rebell traps baited with Buminal and (NH4)2CO3could be satisfactorily used in the mass trapping of the olive fly in years of low infestation.
