The structure consists of discrete monomeric Sn(dappc)Cl2units [H2dappc = 2,6-diacetylpyridine bis(picolinoylhydrazone)] and H2O solvent molecules. The Sn atom has a slightly distorted seven-coordinate pentagonal bipyramidal environment, being bonded to two O and three N atoms of the hydrazone molecule in the pentagonal base and to two C1 atoms in the axial positions.
