Emmanuele Navarro della Miraglia giornalista e scrittore del Secondo Impero

Emmanuele Navarro della Miraglia (1838-1919) lived in Paris from 1864 to 1873, having been introduced by Alexandre Dumas to the world of the French newspapers and reviews. Navarro became a fine observer of the private and public life during the Second Empire, that accurately reported in three well-known reviews:Le Nain Jaune,La Vie ParisienneandLa Vogue Parisienne. Many of his articles, tales and portraits were collected and published in Paris (Ces MessieursandCes Dames, 1874) and in Italy (La vita color di rosa: schizzi e scene, 1875;Macchiette parigine, 1881), when Navarro left France, after the French-Prussian war.Once in Italy, living in Milan, his French experience granted him a place in many newspapers and reviews, such asRivista minima,L'Universo illustrato,Fanfulla,Corriere della Sera,La moda illustrata,Rivista europea,Capitan Fracassa,Cronaca bizantina,Gazzetta letteraria,Libertà e lavoro,Il Monitore,La Domenica letteraria.In 1879, Navarro published a short novel,La Nana, one of the first tales settled in the rural Sicily, a country still almost unknown to the Italian public. Thanks to this effort, Navarro began to be considered among the writers of the Italian Naturalism. In this way he has been read and studied since then. But, unfortunately, it is still missing a deep and complete research about his French experience and works, that it is going to be analyzed in this thesis, totally focused on Navarro's writings related to his years in Paris.
