Following the collapse of much of traditional economic activities due to the current situation of general crisis, many municipalities see the solution to their problems, both in the short and medium term, in strengthening tourism. But this tourism requires the preservation of natural and cultural heritage to prevent degradation, and also a proper training of their workforce. This article narrates the case of a coastal town in southern Spain, Barbate, struggling to find new sources of survival for a population with high rates of work stoppage.
