The potential evapotranspiration (ETP) for a typical Mediterranean environment was calculated in two important agricultural plains in Sardinia. Thornthwaite's empirical formula and FAO recommended formulas were used. The results obtained were compared with experimental ones obtained using a Class A evaporimeter. The calculations which were carried out monthly over a period of 23 years, from 1961 to 1983, gave different results. The figures obtained using Thornthwaite's method were lower than those obtained using the other methods. The Blaney-Criddle-FAO method proved to be the most suitable for the estima¬tion of ETP in Mediterranean environments. The variations in ETP throughout the year and from year to year were also analysed.

Abstract

L'évapotranspiration potentielle (ETP) d'un milieu au climat typiquement méditerranéen, la Sardaigne, a été calculée en partant de données climatiques de deux stations (Alghero-Fertilia et Cagliari - Elmas) représentatives des conditions climatiques typiques de deux zones plates de l'Ile, importantes au point de vue agronomique. On a utilisé les formules empiriques de Thornthwaite et celles proposées par la méthodologie FAO et les résultats ont été confrontés avec ceux des mesures experimentales par évaporimètre de type Classe A. Les calculs effectués à échelle mensuelle pendant une période de vingt trois ans (1961-83) donnent des résultats différents des estimations: par exemple, les valeurs annuelles obtenues avec la méthode de Thornthwaite mettent en évidence une sous-estimation de l'ETP par rapport aux autres méthodes appliquées, alors que la Blaney-Criddle corrigée par la FAO s'est démontrée la plus indiquée pour l'estimation de l'ETP en milieu méditerranéen. On a analysé aussi le régime de l'évapotranspiration potentielle au cours de l'année et les variations interannuelles pendant la période considérée.
