It is widely recognized by many scholars that the Battle of Zama was a crucial episode of ancient Mediterranean history at the end of 3rd century BC; however the exact localization of battlefield remains uncertain. In this paper we examine, in a chronological, topographical and historiographical point of view, the various opinions of scholars, also using the classical sources, well-known epigraphic documents and new archaeological data from the settlement of Jama in relations of its surrounding landscape.
