The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of hormone replacement therapy on postmenopausal women's depression. 85 patients served as therapy group (transdermal or oral) and 63 of them were depressed at follow up, 59 of them improved after one year of therapy. 130 patients served as control group and 83 of them had a depressive syndrome at follow up. Only 6 of them improved after one year. In conclusion, hormone replacement therapy appeared to be effective in depression and in mood disorders in postmenopausal women and there was a very significant difference between therapy and control groups (p<0.0001).
