The beginning of pregnancy in sheep: changes of the some hematochemical non mineral parameters. The milk yield, body weight and blood levels of glucose, total protein, albumin, urea nitrogen, creatinine, triglycerides, cholesterol, total bilirubin in a group of 28 sheep, of which 22 lactating, were checked. At the beginning of the research the sheep were submitted to the estrous synchronization nprocedure. All the subjects, with the exception of 2, were covered. Out of 22 lactating sheep 12 were pregnant at the first estrous and 7 gave birth to twin lambs. Between 6 non-lactating sheep 2 were pregnant at the first estrous. During research a loss of body weight resulted and was lower in the pregnant subjects. The milk yield reduced initially equally whether giving birth to one lamb or twin. Blood levels of glucose tended to be lower in the subjects with higher milk yield. Total protein, albumin and urea nitrogen decreased. Blood levels of creatinine were influenced by motor activity. Nothing particular was ascertained on the triglycerides, cholesterol and total bilirubin. Before conception, the sheep that gave birth to 2 lambs had blood levels of glucose lower (P<0,001), total protein higher (P<0,001), triglycerides higher (P<0,05), and lower bilirubin (P<0,01)than the sheep that gave birth to one lamb. In these same subjects the average values of the first month of pregnancy were: glucose lower (P<0,02), total protein higher (P<0,001), triglycerides higher (P<0,02) and total bilirubin lower (P<0,02).

Abstract

The beginning of pregnancy in sheep: changes of the some hematochemical non mineral parameters. The milk yield, body weight and blood levels of glucose, total protein, albumin, urea nitrogen, creatinine, triglycerides, cholesterol, total bilirubin in a group of 28 sheep, of which 22 lactating, were checked. At the beginning of the research the sheep were submitted to the estrous synchronization nprocedure. All the subjects, with the exception of 2, were covered.
