OBJECTIVE: Urodynamics is often missing as a preoperatory evaluation of women ongoing to conservative or surgical treatment for pelvic floor prolapse (POP) and/or urinary incontinence (UI). Uroflowmetry is a common screening test for voiding disturbances but it is characterized by lack of absolute normal values. The results often require a fuller evaluation with invasive urodynamics. The aims of the study were:to evaluate flow measures and shape to verify how POP and UI are related to non-invasive urodynamics; to compare the value of symptoms, bladder diary and questionnaires with full urodynamics in the diagnosis of urogynaecological diseases. DESIGN: Prospective study. SETTING: University Urogynaecology Unit. PATIENTS: A total of 195 women referred for LUTS and/or POP. INTERVENTIONS:Collection of symptoms, questionnaires, bladder diary; clinical evaluation and urodynamics. CONCLUSIONS: POP stages are related to uroflometry and post void residual, especially for anterior compartment. The urine flow patterns are significanty related to flow parameters but in patients with POP and/or UI there is any “diagnostic” urine flow shape for each category. A good agreement was confirmed between bladder-diary/questionnaires and urodynamics.
