The analysis of proverbs and idioms found in the comedy written by Efisio Vincenzo Melis in the south Sardinian variant (“campidanese”), characterized by a pragmatic approach (but taking into account semantic and, if necessary, phonetic-etymological aspects of language as well), allowed firstly to show the real communicative intent of the speaker concealed in each proverb or idiom as a speech act, and secondly to reveal an unexpected persuasive energy interweaved in the comic drama, which is also interesting from a socio-linguistic point of view. This study involves various disciplines where linguistics detains the principal role, able to catch the attention of philology and literary scholars (or anthropology ones) as a useful parameter of investigation to reveal further aesthetic aspects of language. The work is divided in two main parts: the first one has a theoretical nature (chapters I and II) while the second has an applicative one (chapter III); conclusions are developed in chapter IV. The first chapter shows the history of paremiological studies mainly from a semantic point of view, while in the second one the analysis adopts a pragmatic development. Chapter III shows how the interpolation of the theoretical knowledge developed in the previous chapters comes alive in the analysis of Sardinian idioms and proverbs as speech acts.

Abstract
Chapter III shows how the interpolation of the theoretical knowledge developed in the previous chapters comes alive in the analysis of Sardinian idioms and proverbs as speech acts.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
