Il Paesaggio mediterraneo dell'olivo: storia e prospettive di un paesaggio multifunzionale

The subject of this research is the agrarian landscape of olive tree in the Mediterranean area. The choice of the landscape of olive tree has occurred for its great value in the cultural, historical, environmental and economic context; the landscapes of olive tree are perhaps the most characteristic and deeply connected with the identity and culture of the entire population of the countries that face themselves on the Mediterranean Sea. The contemporary landscape of olive tree, above all in the peri-urban areas, is facing the dynamic changes that have necessity of able proposals that will address these changes towards the valorization of the traditional landscape and creation of new agrarian landscapes in a sustainable perspective. The objectives of the research were to explore the characteristics of the olive grove landscape beginning from historical, cultural and botanical description, and catching up to the contemporary problems, above all in the peri-urban areas. The final objective was to find possible answers related to the problem of sustainable maintenance of these traditional Mediterranean landscapes, estimating and confronting the international experiences through the study cases.
