At the centre of the analysis of this thesis is the sense of respect as attitude of open recognition of the person, either by the side of the social worker toward intervention's beneficiary but also either by the side of the beneficiary toward operator.The theoretical background of the concept of respect and recognition, in the meaning used in thesis, is articulated retracing in particular the main works of Erving Goffman, Amartya Sen and Richard Sennett. Next, the thesis pass to analyze the importance of the concept of respect in the vocational training of the social workers, describing the evolution of the profession in normative and formative terms. Finally, in light of the theoretical variation of respect, until outlined above, the thesis examines some of the practices implemented by professional social service, analyzing through focus groups and through depth interviews beneficiaries and operators committed in a Equal Project.An important outcome of this thesis is that a careful practice to respect for others can influence, in particular through the documentation, on design and implementation of social policies. The sense of respect can be considered as an essential condition for really effective welfare policies, respectful of person's integrity and able to facilitate the re-inclusion in the citizenship's circuits.

Abstract
