This research aims to provide a methodical report on servile workers in Sardinia, during the Roman Age, through a comprehensive analysis of epigraphical sources on the socio-cultural and economic role of slaves and freedmen in the Sardinian society context and the geographical distribution of sources, paying due attention to the differences between urban and rural areas. Collected data show that slaves provided services in private homes and urban areas, and were often employed as labourers in the fields, while freedmen enjoyed a higher level to social mobility. The survey consists of two main sections: after a brief introduction, the first section provides a reasoned synthesis of data on the distribution of slavery in Sardinia during the Roman Age, and its implications, through a collation of literary, legal, archaeological and epigraphical sources; while the second section consists of a Catalogue of inscriptions, epigraphical indexes, a concordance table on the main epigraphical collections, and a bibliography. From this perspective, public, private and imperial slaves and freedmen, living in the provincia Sardinia, in particular in the ancient urban areas, seemed to pay a vital and widely diversified role in the economic, domestic, religious and individual contexts, within the artistic and cultural fervour of the town.

Abstract
From this perspective, public, private and imperial slaves and freedmen, living in the provincia Sardinia, in particular in the ancient urban areas, seemed to pay a vital and widely diversified role in the economic, domestic, religious and individual contexts, within the artistic and cultural fervour of the town.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
