Aim: The remineralizing properties of casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) were evaluated through a systematic review of the literature. Clinical cases were reported regarding treatment of molar-incisor hypohypomineralisation (MIH).Methods: PubMed, Cochrane and Embase databases were searched for trials relevant to this review. Searched articles regards remineralization of post-orthodontic white spot lesions, caries prevention, erosion prevention, MIH (molar incisor hypomineralisation) remineralization. Cases reported regard the aesthetic improvements applying calcium-phosphate casein on the surface of MIH affected teeth. Results: The CPP-ACP complex has been shown to remineralise tooth surfaces when delivered in oral care products thanks to his unique ability to deliver bio-available calcium and phosphate. The effectiveness of CCP-ACP in caries prevention and lesion reversal has been supported by many controlled clinical studies. CPP-ACP appears to show the same preventive effect of fluoride use. Results, also, suggest a positive effect in erosion prevention. CPP-ACP may help functional restorative techniques in treated MIH molars and aesthetics in untreated incisors. Conclusions: Further research is required to provide a scientifically supported recommendation for clinical applications of CPP-ACP, but the results seem promising. In vivo application demonstrates aesthetics changing and improve enamel morphology.
