In Sardinia the transition from the Neolithic to the Eneolithic is characterised by a series of gradual transformations in the organisation of production, in particular in the field of ceramics: while the survival of some aspects of the Neolithic tradition can be observed, at the same time there is the introduction of new vascular forms (Melis, 2009; Melis & Piras, 2010); among them the ‘tegame’, a low open vessel for cooking, which is the subject of this study. The current research led to the reconstruction of roughly 50 vessels, with most of them conserving a complete profile. These were compared with similar examples found in the contemporary settlements of Cronicario and Terramaini. Analyses of the different chaînes opératoires made it possible to determine the diverse production methods. The identification of surface marks and their experimental verification demonstrated the existence of the same savoir faire across the different sites, with occasional variations in the auxiliary technical strategies.
