Studies concerning the mesolithic fauna of peninsulsr Italy are very scarce and the identified species are probably only one part of the species effectively present in this period. Most of the mesolithic mammals are also present in the early phase of the Neolithic. The arrival of domestic mammals and the exploitation of land for agriculture affected conditions for some wild species.
Gli studi sulla fauna mesolitica dell'Italia peninsulare sono molto scarsi e le specie identificate sono probabilmente solo una parte di quelle effettivamente presenti in questo periodo. Molti mammiferi mesolitici sono presenti anche nella prima fase del Neolitico. L'arrivo dei mammiferi domestici e lo sfruttamento delle campagne per l'agricoltura portò condizioni sfavorevoli per alcune specie selvatiche.
