An analysis of the Italian life tables at provincial level put the population of Sardinia and especially the Nuoro province beyond the usual range. The life expectancies at 60 and 85 are higher and the difference between men andwomen is less pronounced compared towhat is usually observed elsewhere. Exceptionally, in the Nuoro province, the life expectancy at 85 was higher for males compared to females between 1971 and 1991.
