PRODUCTION OF VIRUS-FREE ARTICHOKE (CYNARA SCOLYMUS L.) BY MERISTEM-TIP CULTURE. All the "Spinoso sardo" artichoke plants growing in Sardinia are infected by a latent potyvirus. In order to produce virus-free material the meristem-tip culture has been experimented. Several nutrient media have been tested. The best results were obtained from an integration of the Pierik's medium. By biological and serological tests it resulted that more than 80% of the produced plants were virus-free.
