Migrations of Paracentrotus lividus from a rocky habitat to Posidonia oceanica patches were estimated in situ within the Capo Caccia-Isola Piana MPA (NW Sardinia, Italy). Sea urchin movements were found to be strongly dependent on the distance from the patch edge, but not on the specimens size. Since no effective preference has been exhibited, these results would suggest that sea urchins are likely to move randomly from rocky habitat to seagrass patches.

Abstract
Migrations of Paracentrotus lividus from a rocky habitat to Posidonia oceanica patches were estimated in situ within the Capo Caccia-Isola Piana MPA (NW Sardinia, Italy). Sea urchin movements were found to be strongly dependent on the distance from the patch edge, but not on the specimens size. Since no effective preference has been exhibited, these results would suggest that sea urchins are likely to move randomly from rocky habitat to seagrass patches.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
