Current descriptions of linguistic features are not refined enough to predict language use in complex utterances and to generate texts at the level of complexity of authentic communication. This paper will discuss the results of a pilot study which explores one of the most salient aspects of linguistic complexity, i.e. the effective realisation or nonrealisation of complements and adjuncts, and analyses to this end the behaviour of the verb entscheiden and its noun counterpart Entscheidung (‚decide‘ and ‚decision‘) in a highly-specialized German-Italian corpus in the field of administrative law. In particular, it deals with the development of research strategies which are able to cope with the difficulties in combining qualitative and quantitative empirical analysis.

Abstract
Current descriptions of linguistic features are not refined enough to predict language use in complex utterances and to generate texts at the level of complexity of authentic communication. This paper will discuss the results of a pilot study which explores one of the most salient aspects of linguistic complexity, i.e. the effective realisation or nonrealisation of complements and adjuncts, and analyses to this end the behaviour of the verb entscheiden and its noun counterpart Entscheidung (‚decide‘ and ‚decision‘) in a highly-specialized German-Italian corpus in the field of administrative law. In particular, it deals with the development of research strategies which are able to cope with the difficulties in combining qualitative and quantitative empirical analysis.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
