Henri Deneux e le charpentes della Francia del Nord: una lezione di metodo fra conoscenza e restauro

In 1927 Henri Deneux published a research on L’evolution des charpentes du XI au XVIII siecle, whose aim to fill a serious gap in the storic architecture studies focused only on masonry construcion. The data that Deneux collected year by year (about 500 roofs in the north of France, brought together only in part in his essay of 1927) are mostly unpublished up to now and nowadays they represent the unique valuable evidence of costrucions destroyed during the World War I bombing raids. The knwoledge developed throught his surveys was at the rout of Deneux’s reconstrucion projects suggested for the monuments in Reims where the study of historic technologies combined with the use of more modern techniques. A lesson with merges together history, knowledge an project in a inseparable way.
