The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of canine oocytes to resume meiosis in vitro after A) culture with okadaic acid and B) after celi fusion with bovine MII oocytes. For this purpose oocytes, collected from ovaries of bitches undergoing ovariectomy were preincubated for 24 in TCM 199+ 20%FCS+ okadaic acid (2uM) and thereafter cultured for 48h in the same medium medium without okadaic acid. In the second experiment canine oocytes at GV stage were fused by electric pulse with MII bovine oocytes and cultured for 2-3 h. Results showed that okadaic acid determined meiotic resumption of canine oocytes but at the end of culture the percentage of oocytes reaching MII did not increase. Moreover, fusion of MII bovine oocytes to GV canine partners was unable of inducing meiotic resumption of the GV. These data suggest that the meiotic maturati o n of canine oocytes could be regulated by factors and mechanisms different from other species
