This study uses a socioterminological (Gambier, 1987; Gaudin, 2003, 2005) and comparative French-Italian approach to explore the terminology of the places where beer is consumed and produced, a nano-domain that suggests the territorial vocation and sustainable practices of the craft brewing sector. Indeed, the rise of the sector coincides with the success of Neolocalism (Shortridge, 1996), a movement that draws on a sense of place, regional identity and care for the environment. Therefore, we have collected candidate terms from the Websites of (micro)breweries based in France and Italy, and we have examined their composition (nouns, adjectives, prefixes, suffixes), considering the discursive context and any definitions provided by the companies, the dictionaries or other documents. The results of the analysis confirm, on the one hand, the global relevance of environmental issues and, on the other, the relation between terminologies and societies.
