Abstract

The Pontes nuraghe has a simple, single tower configuration, with a roughly circular base with an external diameter of about 13.25 meters and a height of 11.80 meters. If it is planimetrically simple, the majesty of the structure is however appreciated in the size of its stones, so much so that the architrave alone measures 365 cm (width), 150 cm (height) and 110 cm (depth), with an estimated weight of about 16 tons. . During the excavations carried out between 2021 and 2022, some structures from the Nuragic and Roman periods emerged at the foot of the nuraghe itself, attesting to the intense anthropic activity of the complex in different periods. So, various settlements were formed along the small watercourses present in the area, so much so that Alberto Lamarmora, in the second half of the eighteenth century, had registered 17 nuraghi and various tombs of giants and "conical stones". This text will present the survey and evaluation work of the conservation status of the nuraghe and of the structures re-emerged during the aforementioned excavations, with evaluations regarding the problems related to the deterioration and instability of the architectures in question. In this case, the problems are observed more at the local level of the individual segments or architectural elements, rather than phenomena that affect it as a whole, and this is a case in which there is a high quality of the construction techniques adopted. In the first half of the nineteenth century the nuraghe, according to the testimony of V. Angius, this nuraghe was "little less than whole" and the same can be said today. However, the deterioration and the problems of the state of equilibrium of the structures brought to light, as well as some specific problems generated by clandestine excavations, show how fragile the maintenance of these assets is, although intrinsically highly resistant to time.
