The agricultural sustainability of the photovoltaic (PV) greenhouse is strictly related to the amount of solar light incident on the greenhouse area. We elaborated an algorithm to calculate the cumulated global radiation inside PV greenhouses at the desired time interval and at different canopy heights. The algorithm was tested on a PV greenhouse with 50% PV cover ratio (south roof) located in southern Italy (Fig. 1). The results are presented using maps of light distribution, highlighting the most penalised areas and the differences of the yearly distribution at the canopy height. The procedure can be applied to several PV greenhouse types, locations and orientations, to estimate the cumulated global radiation incident during the crop cycle. This algorithm can be considered a decision support tool for the choice of suitable species and crop management techniques inside PV greenhouses.
