The recent activities of the University of Sassari’s Italian archaeological mission in Tunisia and of the Italian-Tunisian research project directed by Samir Aounallah and Attilio Mastino dealt with some areas in the municipium of Thignica, including the «housing district», largely occupied by a domus with peristyle and an apsidal room overlooking it. The identification and study of two capitals belonging to the peristyle has made it possible to propose here a date for the construction of the building, which can be framed in the first half of the 2nd century. The new phase and the contemporary inscription could date back to the 4th century, when the apsed hall plan is frequentely documented, also in Zeugitana and Byzacena, related above all with the general diffusion of stibadia for holding banquets. A fragment of an African red slip ware deep bowl provides a terminus post quem that does not conflict with this reconstruction.
