The aim of this essay is to account for the progressive development of strategies forvparcelling and organizing time at school, that is, the distribution and realization of tasks on a shared timeline. I will provide only a first tentative answer to the question of how the relationship between education and time changed from the late Middle Ages to the Industrial Age, by focusing on a few cases in point from various geographical areas. Such an approach avoids far-fetched generalizations by providing concrete examples that illustrate certain larger developments in the history of temporal organization.
