The chapter offers a debate on cultural identity related to European islands and landscapes, and attempts to advance concepts and new methods on island landscape identity. Islands can be perceived as disadvantageous regions, especially by their inhabitants, but at the same time they represent economic opportunities for developers and are seen as attractive places for visitors. They undoubtedly retain a particular sense of cultural heritage and identity, notable on all European isles and, as shown in the case studies of Venice and Murano, in Italy too. Here a method to investigate island landscape identity has been applied, with the results illustrated through island mind maps, graphs and charts, which serve to elucidate the local island cultural heritage and landscape identity.
