Coenurosis is a neuropathy caused by the cystic larval form of the taperworm Multiceps multiceps which tends to strike sheep between the age of 8 and 18 months, less frequently bovinesand goats, rarely other species and occasionally humans. The general and focal neurological symptoms are expressions of the different phases of the pathology (invasion of the oncospheres, development of one or more cust): ataxia, postural deficit, hipermetria, mono o bilateral amaurosis, circling, lateraldeviation of the head and of the neck and immobility are the most frequently encountered clinical signs. Fortunately, the clinical exam with the support of complementary proof (prova anottica, prova decubito prolungato) offers the chance to ascertain the cyst site with almost absolute certainty. The new diagnostic techniques for imaging (TAC, RMN), though rendering localization of the vesicle more simple, are little used in the practice owing to elevated costs. The only effective therapy for the resolution of this neuropathy, in spite of the preventative tratments carried out on dogs, in surgery. The aim of this work is to call attention to the basic and indispensable conditions for the performance of the therapeutic surgery.
